The Working of Stair Lifts
Stair lifts are installed by professionally trained engineers. These engineers take a survey of the location where the stair lifts have to be installed, and then they create a feasibility report and suggest the best suited stair lift for the location. These engineers supervise the installation of the stair lift to ensure safety and security of the user.
Mainly, a stair lift consists of a platform attached to a metal rail. This platform is supplied with several types of motors which assist it in moving across the rail. The platform could be changed with different seating or standing arrangements as per the consumer's requirements. A large number of designs of stair lifts are available in the markets which have different types of platform and rail mechanisms.
A classic construction consists of a chair and a well mounted wall rail. This rail is able to provide the base for the chair to move about with the help of different motors with as little effort as probable. These stair lifts are also known as the handicap lifts, as they were initially designed for the handicapped to facilitate them in going up and down the stairs with no any help from someone else.
The whole machinery works on electrical power supply provided to it either by rechargeable batteries or with the assistance of a steady supply of electricity transferred to it by means of cables. A few stair lifts which are fixed outdoors have their own external power supply unit which is usually fixed by an engineer provided by the company.
There are also stair lifts which consist of a large platform where one can securely park the wheelchair, and it lifts the person along with the wheelchair much like a normal elevator. This type of stair lift is particularly beneficial in cases where the person is unable to lift himself from the wheelchair, and thus is transported along with the wheelchair.
Stair lifts give liberty to its users. They can at present move about the stairs without the help of anybody what so ever. There are stair lifts which are fixed with a permanent platform with a small support for the consumer to stand up. These stair lifts are specifically designed for people who are able to stand with a little help, and do not require a seat to climb the stairs.
Because of the versatile construction of the stair lifts, they could still be fixed into the tightest spots. They can fix well in narrow stair cases, and in places where it would be not possible to fix an elevator. There are different kinds of stair lifts for indoor and outdoor usage. The ones which have been designed for outdoor usage are provided with a weather protected shielding on the mechanical parts to avoid any damage from rain or other climatic conditions.
