Can a computer chair which is using gas lift which is no longer working can still be repaired?

My computer chair wont lift anymore and wont stay still to my desired height. I dont want to junk it because the cushion is still good and comfy but it just goes down and down and down until I realized I am already below the height of the table. Can somebody suggest how to fix it or any remedy at all?
